Cevdet Arkun has an eye for presentation. From the moment Jeff started watching English language movies in his humble abode in Istanbul,
he has always wanted to work behind the scenes in movies and photography and help turn ordinary people and places into masterpieces.
Cevdet Arkun learned English as a child just so he could read articles and watch movies and better appreciate what he was looking at.
While everyone else was admiring Julia Robert’s performance in Love Actually, he was studying the camera angles and lighting of important shots and imagining himself as the camera man,
trying to capture the glint in the protagonist’s eyes with just the right angle.
When Jeff first moved to the United States,
the first course of action he took after looking up an apartment on Craigslist was enrolling at Santa Monica Community College.
He was about as good at taking pictures as you could get without formal schooling.
But of course he had no idea how much hard work becoming a professional would actually be.
He still remembers the praise he got from friends and family for the shots he took for his high school yearbook and thinking to himself how he was going to walk into that classroom and show them all.
So one could imagine how many times he had his ego broken at first.
But after working hard and making friends with his various professors (even serving as an “unofficial” teacher’s assistant on a few occasions), Jeff can say with pride that his skills have improved dramatically. Jeff gained experience in headshots, action shots, retouching, etc. And despite those arduous years, he somehow maintained the perfectionism and idealism he had as that little boy in Turkey.
Talents and Services
Mr. Arkun is highly proficient in any work that requires human interaction. He can do headshots for aspiring actors/actresses, photo shoots for aspiring models, family portraits, and baby pictures. He’s done professional work for dozens of people, and has made many friends out of people who were pleased with his work and wanted to keep him among their contacts. He does insist on the same professionalism and punctuality which he gives to his clients. However Jeff will always do his best to please. After all, the customer is always right.
Since Mr. Arkun prefers working with other people, most of his experience revolves around having people as his subjects. However, should the need arise, Mr. Arkun is just as skilled at taking action shots and still lifes. His clients have described him as a “Renaissance man”, “a master of all trades”. However, his best work still involves working with still human subjects.
Finally, Mr. Arkun is highly proficient in the use of Photoshop. So whether you want to improve an existing photo or make sure your lovely face looks even better to your family and friends, Mr. Arkun will be more than happy to help you out.
Both of my parents were fresh graduates from a well know college with a BA in architecture.
My mom’s plans for her future were suddenly changed and become a house wife and took care of me, where my father open his architecture office with two of his college friends. As growing up with architects around me, and Lego being my favorite childhood toy, I developed an eye for creativity. I have always been an active student, it was mostly sportive activities but one day our principal called me and asked if I could work in the student newspaper. Unwillingly I accepted. It would be a good excuse to bail some boring classes in the end. The newspaper needed a photographer and it was then when I held my first camera. I had no idea how to us a camera at that time. But seeing the world from a different perspective was an experience even now it is hard to explain in words. I did my fair share of photography till I graduated. Then it was college time. My parents thought computer related jobs would be a wise thing to study at that time. So did I. But I could only tolerate studying computer science for 3 years. So I dropped out from college and decided to open a restaurant. Learned a lot about running a successful business. 5 years later I needed a change in my life. And decided to go back to college. But this time as I had the money from the restaurant and as I was wiser I thought about moving to US, as it is always been a childhood fantasy of mine. When I first moved to the United States, the first course of action I took after looking up an apartment on Craigslist was enrolling to Santa Monica Community College. One could only imagine how many times I had my ego broken at first. But after working hard and taking thousands of photos I can say with pride that my skills have improved dramatically. Thanks to all my professors and my friends and my mom for being behind me and supporting me in every step. I have gained experience in headshots, action shots, fashion, retouching, etc. And despite those arduous years, I somehow maintained the perfectionism, idealism and my creativity I had as that little boy in Turkey grow up playing with his Lego’s.
